Apple And My Bad Decision

January 12th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Apple recently made the announcement of the new iPhone. There are plenty of other sites that are talking about that right now so if you want to know more about the phone just google it. I think it is going to be pretty amaing though.

Here is a picture of it…

This post

is just me venting about a bad decision I made back in October of 2003. Lets take a look back at what was happening then…iTunes had been on the mac for a bit and they were thinking of releasing iTunes for windows computers. I had a little money left over from my financial aid check and was mulling over buying some apple stock with it. After all, I thought iTunes was going to be huge! (which it has been). So back then my $400 could have bought about 57 shares of Apple stock. Which at that time was trading at around $6.95 a share. I checked on that to see what kind of return I would have gotten on that investment had I went through and dropped the wad on some stock. Today their stock closed at $94.62 a share. Doing some math I figured I would have been up about $5,000 taking out my initial investment of $400.

Then I started looking at their stock movement a little closer. There are these things called splits. I overlooked this fact at first. It turns out that Apple did indeed have a split on Feb 28th 2005 at 2 to 1. So my initial 57 shares would have turned into 114 shares.

That also doubles my previous figure.

I think I might need to get on that apple stock bandwagon before they release this new phone…….
